These terms are the agreement between you and [operator name] (“we”) for using Shelf. By creating an account you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
Your account
You need to be at least 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent where you live). Keep your sign-in secure; you’re responsible for what happens under your account. Usernames are first come, first served, and we may reclaim names that impersonate others or are inactive and abusive.
Your content
What you put on your shelf (the list of things you’ve read and listened to, notes, words on your wall, and pictures you upload) stays yours. You give us a limited licence to store it, process it and show it to the people your visibility setting allows, including in share images and previews, only to run Shelf. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from copies in short-lived backups.
Only upload pictures you have the right to share: your own photos and work, works in the public domain, or images whose licence allows it. Crediting an artist is kind, but it doesn’t give you the right to share their work. Don’t put anything on Shelf, in pictures or in words, that:
- is illegal, or infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
- is sexually explicit, violent, hateful, or harasses or targets anyone;
- contains other people’s personal information without their permission;
- is spam, malware, or an attempt to abuse, overload or break the service.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. To report a shelf, use the flag at the top of it. For a formal copyright notice, or anything else, email [contact email] with a link to the shelf and what’s wrong.
Catalogue information and covers
Titles, authors, artists and covers suggested while adding come from public catalogues (Open Library, MusicBrainz and the Cover Art Archive). They can be incomplete or wrong; you can always edit what’s on your shelf. Covers belong to their respective rights holders and are shown to identify the work.
Plans and limits
Shelf is currently free. Some features have limits (for example, how many images you can upload). If we introduce paid plans, we’ll describe them clearly before you buy anything, and existing content won’t be taken away.
The service
We work hard to keep Shelf available and your data safe, but it’s provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect losses or for losses caused by things outside our reasonable control. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that can’t be limited.
Ending things
You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms, and we’ll tell you why where we can.
Changes and law
We may update these terms; if a change matters, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction].
